The king was sure that his wife had waited a very long time for this. But he had waited even longer. As he had been dressed for the ceremony earlier, Roland had kept thinking about to the day he had held Dianne captive in his rooms, and presented her with her new future, if she would take it. A crown for a son.

She hadn't actually wanted to accept at first. It had hurt him more than he'd anticipated. But then she'd come around. And she'd become his wife... and then the mother of his child and, now - as to honor his deal - the queen of Tetel'ac.

He was happy to give it to her. He would be proud to have Dianne walk tall at his side, knowing her position was more secure than her predecessor's had ever been. He loved her. She made him happy. And more... she gave him something so precious...

The coronation would be held in the court's main hall, just off the throne room, where the polished stone floors spread wide enough to support a seating area for the ample crowd of foreign and domestic dignitaries, family, friends, and then enough standing room for every other lord and lady who could cram themselves in to see to gather all around. Through the large windows all about the hall, peasants had crammed themselves up against the glass to catch a glimpse of their new Queen.

A small altar-like piece of ancient furniture had been moved to the head of the room - in the threshold of the throne room, actually - and it had been draped in a red bolt of fine and anointed cloth, the shapes of various objects causing a mountainous region beneath it.

The room was already filled with those who had come to see. The rows of chairs facing the altar were filled, and a man of the clergy, in his purple robes, stood at the altar, prepared to officiate - as A'erian priests had been doing ever since they'd gotten their grubby hands on the position. All that was missing was the King, and his wife to be coronated.

In the corridor outside the hall, Roland, dressed in finery of tan and royal blue, his hair tied back with a ribbon of the same colors, awaited his beloved creature of a wife.

Rosamund had made sure she was early and had taken her seat accordingly. Close to the front but befitting her station behind the Dukes and Duchesses. She had chosen to wear her family's dark blue with pearls sewn into the hem, her Sapphire jewels were also out today, and the robes of her station and her diadem. Yes, today she was dressed to impress, but then it was not everyday that a new queen was crowned. She sat with good posture, smiling politely, as she surveyed the room. The decorations were tasteful and charming, and most of the guests seemed appropriately dressed. She could not help but frown at the A'erian priest conducting the proceedings. Personally it was Rosamund's opinion that the ceremony should be of the true faith of Gaira, but never mind it was not her place to judge.

As His Majesty's advisor (one of many, albeit the one who was married to His Majesty's sister) Mason Thorne deserved a place among the coronation seating. He was not as high as a duke or duchess, not even a count or countess - in the end he was only a lowly lord.

His wife at his side, the two shuffled into their seats, taking up a spot behind Rosamund. Mason did not recognize her,so he continued to fluster with himself and look about as though he was searching for certain faces, but Lirra did, and a smile came to her face to see a local Rodani woman, and one who had been here and there around Dunmore (the deGrada family home in Rodan). Lirra had not lived in Rodan for many years now, stuck in Fexlund with her family, but she had visited home often, and seen Rosamund now and then. Now, the only familiar face from home in a crowd of so many, Rosamund was as good as a bosom friend.

Reaching forward, the ever-lady-like and proper Lirra touched her fan gently to Rosamund's shoulder.

Cassandra was excited and worried. She and Ed were both dressed in their finest. Cassandra in a rose silk that matched the color of her lips. her hair was plaited against her neck and wisps of curls tumbled around her ears. Ed looked stately and serious in the family colors. Her jewels gleamed from her neck and the top of her head. The courts finest were all going to be in attendance today. They had to look their best.

It was one of the first times they had been away from the baby together. Cassandra had always been with the boy. She worried that something might happen while they were away. Ed had tried to comfort her. The boy was in good care. In truth most of the castle would be watching over the young Lord.

He had to keep reassuring her, and it was working. But her mind drifted. She was excited that she would meet Roland's son Jaxon today. That alone made it worth the journey. she was so happy for the King and the Queen. She hoped they would be happy now and content. Just like she was with Edmund.

She squeezed his arm and smiled at him as they entered the hall.

"It is nice to be with you today my love."

Edmund, as ever, dressed in the red, black and silver that he was known for. It had once been a statement that he dared to wear the house colours of the fallen house of La Roux; that he indeed half-believed himself to be an extension of that family, of the first people he loved and respected.
He had previously worn it as rebellion against the house of deGrada.
But now his life seemed... good. For the first time, he thought about changing his beloved colours to match the DeWinter's. But such a change at the coronation of his step-father's new queen was ill-timed. Heaven forbid that Edmund should appear to be approving of the monarch and his wife.

So dressed in his regular best, he accompanied Cassandra. They had left baby Ralph in the very able care of his nanny, in the palace rooms they had been given. He was just upstairs, though the separation made both parents a little nervous.
Edmund glanced down at Cassandra by his side, and whenever he saw the tell-tale fidgeting, he held her hand, squeezing it gently. They only had to distract themselves down here for a couple of hours, then they could go back to check on Ralph, before returning for the socialising and whatever event Roland had planned.

Edmund allowed his wife to lead him into the hall. He was not a social person. There were people he knew, but Edmund had spent so many years being the shady lord lingering in the background, that he hardly knew how to handle people head on.
No, it was much more likely that people would approach Cassandra and speak with her. She was light and life.

"And you, my love, are the only thing making this farce of a day bearable."

He murmured, so only his wife could hear. Edmund did not want to dwell (but imagined he would) on the fact that they were here to celebrate an unlawful King and man he had long despised, crowning the whore that Roland had killed Edmund's mother for.

Rosaumuns felt a light touch to her shoulder and turned in surprise to see two old acquaintances, "Lirra! Lord Thorne It is good to see you" She exclaimed, Lirra she had known since childhood, both being of Rodani nobility they had mingled at festivals and later during important meetings Rosie had to attend as Countess. Mason Thorne she could not say he was that well acquainted with. Of course she had seen him about at court and sat in a few meetings which he had presided in as adviser. His living in Fexlund hindered a closer tie to some degree. "I trust your journey was pleasant?" She inquired with genuine sincerity, "I do love your necklace, was it a gift from Mason? One of the things I do enjoy about these state events is the fashion" She glanced over Lord and Lady Thorne's shoulder for a second "Speaking of which the Duchess du Nord's dress is lovely, I wonder which tailor she got the silks from..."

Cassandra smiled. But the smile did not reach her eyes. Her public face was on in full force.

"Don't think about today. Think about being somewhere else, with me. When we are done we can go see our son for a bit. I want him to meet Rolands son."

She nodded at the other guests kindly as she and Ed found their seats. She knew he was tense. Roland was a sticking point for him she knew. But she loved the King. She knew they would figure it all out at some point. Hopefully Roland would keep his word not to speak of the discussion they had about Ed.

She was thankful for that. She was thankful for the King, no matter what her husband thought.

She hoped the ceremony would be quick. She hoped that everything would go smoothly.

It was Coronation day and everything had to be perfect it had to go smoothly. It must...oh if there were any hiccups...but of course there would be hiccups wouldn't there? It never failed that something would be out of place, the tiniest thing could go wrong; when everything seemed perfect. The court was waiting for the royal procession, that would end with the King and Queen to be.

Tendrils of blonde were drawn into a bun and pinned tightly with small metal pins of copper that blended into her light colored hair. Hugging her slender frame was a dress made for an occasion of state. Ivory and gold fabric set off the tanned skin of the half Kelyean woman. The rich lace beaded upon the gown, with a soft sheen of iridescent gold thread running through the fibers. The lady's maid was stunning to behold, the queen to be must have been even more so.

There was only few reasons nobles ever wore jewels including tiaras. Grand galas, Weddings, Cornations, Deaths included. Today was no exception, it was Coronation day after all and a reason to wear a lady's tiara. Simple, small and elegant befitting her station and complimenting the gown. Evianna was a pile of nerves not just for herself but for her grace. Oh if things were too...No no they must not go wrong!

Swish, swish, flick. Fanning herself with the wide feathered fan. Giving the appearance that she thought it was warm. Much too warm, the wax dripping down the candles as she walked towards her seat. Trying to ignore the hushed voices, whispers. The ooh's and ahh's. Don't snap Evianna she tells herself. Don't snap at the other's they can't help but be surrounded by such splendor and grace, the effort that had been put into this day. This day had a been a long time in coming, nothing could ruin it. Right? Nothing?

Lirra let out a smile as she was talking to Rosamund. Her chair was right next o her husbands as she looked at him with a brief smirk on her face. Lirra turned back to her friends with pure smile on her face. "It was of course." She replied touching the necklace delicately on her neck. Her friend knew the caged feeling she felt but Lirra knew to never fully speak out against it. Lirra was dressed in cloth that was of the season and of the newest fashion. She had a shawl around her shoulders and looked into her friend's eyes before looking at the duchess's dress. "It is beautiful." Sh replied putting her attention up to her brother and then turned to Mason. "Do you think he is nervous?"Mostly asking in general to either one of them.

It was a glorious day for all, especially for the once lowly Lady Dianne Astley.
So far, she had endured hours of pampering, of being bathed and scented oils added to her skin. One of the maids had brushed her hair til it was spun gold, pale and shining waves down her back. Oh yes, Dianne had endured it willingly.
Beneath all the quiet processes, there had been a buzz of excitement. Dianne was aware that there was no love lost between herself and the servants she treated so appallingly; but those in her personal care could not ignore the fact that soon their mistress would be Queen. And when Dianne rose, they would rise with her.
Dianne knew the feeling from her own time as Duchess Rhiann's head maid. She had hoped that when Roland deGrada had taken the throne, he would crown his first wife, making the loyal Dianne Astley one of the most influential people in the country.

Of course, things had happened differently. Rhiann had been exiled (and unfortunately killed on the way), and the King had married Dianne.
Dianne remembered her wedding day, it had been a rushed affair to be wed before her pregnancy started to show, but Dianne had not been particularly nervous. No, she had been thrilled to stand before the great and good of Tetel'ac and prove that she was the King's choice.

Today was a little different. She had never planned to become the Queen, that ambition had never occurred to her. What right did she have to wear a crown? How would it affect her?
Oh, Dianne could only imagine the respect that she would gain from the populace - but what about the many that would target her? Dianne had spent too many years in Duchess Rhiann's company, she knew the machinations of ambitious women.
Perhaps that is what would make her a good queen, a strong queen, that she was not a naive princess; she went into this with her eyes open.

Dianne hid her nerves, thankful of the years of schooling that allowed her to maintain an impassive and polite mask.
Eventually the time came when her maids dressed her and made final adjustments to her hair. They all stepped back and had admiration in their eyes, that her beauty was somehow owned by them.
Dianne glanced in the mirror and was pleased with what she saw. She had picked a relatively simple dress in autumnal plum colours. It hugged a her figure - but damn it, she had just gotten her waist back and she was going to show it off!
The simple dress and loose, unadorned hair, might not be the current fashion in Tetel'ac; but Dianne wanted the focal point of her attire to be her own beauty, and the crown that would be placed on her head.

Dianne took one last, approving glance in the mirror, then motioned for the doors to be opened. The Queen-to-be was arriving.

What was taking her so long? It felt like it had been ages of standing here, waiting for everyone to arrive and sit and socialize, and then some more waiting while Dianne made the trek from her rooms to the court. t probably hand't been that long at all, but for Roland, time seemed to be crawling.

Out there in the audience he could see the representatives from Rodan. A few from Fexlund including the duke and duchess - yes Edmund had arrived, probably only at his wife's behest. Aknatar hadn't shown up - but Balaric couldn't be expected to abandon his precious Aknatar just yet - his seat could be stolen out from under him still.

But Kelyea? Where was Thanos? Thanos, Roland's closest and dearest friend was not there. He had not been at the festival thus far, as far as Roland was aware, and he had not received correspondence from the Caras family. It was worrisome... and out of character... There must have simply been some conflict in the travel. Doubtless Thane would show up a few days later, probably, and the two could celebrate and catch-up then.

From the court, where many were seated, the musicians struck up, beginning the set of music that suggested that things were begining, and at just that moment a servant rushed to the king's side, delivering a message that the Queen was on her way. Time for Roland to get into place then.

Nodding, the King stepped forward, and walking proudly, began to walk down the aisle, flanked by a cohort of 6 guards, all looking sharp and wearing swords ceremonially. And as the king stepped out from the corridor, the guests in the court stood from their chairs (or should have) and cast their eyes upon him, bowing as he passed their way.

Soon enoug, he had reached the alter and, turning there, he looked down the aisle to where he hoped to see his wife arrive.

Dianne made her way through the familiar corridors of the royal palace. The place had been her home for the past couple of years. As the head maid to the King's first wife, Dianne had had unlimited access to the building, and prided herself that she would know now the most direct and indirect route to wherever she desired.
For now, she was happy to walk straight to the site of the coronation. Noise welled up from the hall and could be heard from a distance.
Dianne stopped again at the main door. Her maids hurried forward and made sure that every line of her dress was flattering, and that her hair lay in obedient waves down her back.

At the Queen-to-be's signal, the servants opened the door. The noise of chatter suddenly stopped. Dianne heard the creak of the wooden chairs, and the rustle of fabric as everyone turned to see their Queen arrive.
Dianne allowed her lips to turn in a modest smile and she stepped into the hall.
The lords and ladies that sat at either side was nothing but a bright blur; all Dianne could focus on was her husband standing at the altar. She had a flashback to their wedding day, not many months ago. It was hard to believe how life had turned out. She could never have predicted that she would be standing here; after all, twelve months ago Dianne had been given the death sentence by the Black Court after her betrayal of Rhiann.

Dianne walked down the aisle with measured strides. As she stepped up onto dais, holding her hand out to her husband. Unable to help herself, she smiled to him as though they were alone, her soft lips parting and grey eyes shining. This was truly happening.

"Your Majesty."

She greeted, dipping into a curtsey as she did so.

It seemed to be just the point when everyone was getting uncomfortable. The chatter had died down when Roland entered and then they waited. Ed started twitching with irritation, but Cassandra rested her hand gently on his arm.

She hoped that Roland had not forgotten his promise to her. Ed was certainly not in such a mood to hear words from Roland. Maybe he would relax with a bit of ale and good food. They could dance and enjoy themselves. She would make him relax. It was a joyous occasion.

Finally the Queen consort entered and Cassandra smiled. She looked perfect. There had been a time that Cassandra had dreamed of this moment, her the new Queen the land. But it was not to be. She was where she belonged with Ed and their son. She was happy for Dianne and Roland. She hoped that they would make each other happy for a long time.

Cassandra's eyes danced over the dress and her hair. She took in every detail. Finally she leaned close to Ed.

"She is glowingly beautiful."

Ezekiel had a place reserved on the same row as Mason Thorne. Not the most prestigious spot for sure, they were an after thought, the best seats were afterall kept for the nobility, the major on the front rows with the minor behind them.

As a simple commoner Ezekiel was near the back but he didn't care. He barely paid any attention to anything that was going on with the ceremony, he kept his sharp eyes open for the reactions of those in attendance. This was a test of loyalty to their glorious King, anybody who did not look appropriately happy and proud were to have their names noted and investigated. Roland had enemies everywhere, great men often did and it was up to Ezekiel to destroy them before they destroyed him.

These were dangerous times and Ezekiel would not be doing his job were he not overly suspicious of everybody noting any infraction either minor or major with the same ferocious zeal.
